BioMarin's core business and research are in enzyme replacement therapies (ERTs). BioMarin was the first company to provide therapeutics for mucopolysaccharidosis type I, by manufacturing laronidase. BioMarin was also the first company to provide therapeutics for phenylketonuria (PKU).
